It was rainy season in our country when suddenly the idea of visiting Khulna came into our mind. Khulna is mainly a coastal area of Bangladesh with the majestic mangrove forest called Sundarbans. It is the largest mangrove forest of the world and home of the Royal Bengal Tiger. Khulna is also a city of virtues. The prosperous city was built by Saint Khan Jahan Ali near the inhospitable mangrove forest. Khan Jahan Ali was a well-known saint of the then Indian sub continent. He built houses, water tanks, buildings throughout the city. Now - a - days, Khulna city has already gone a long way. It is now one of the most economically important division of Bangladesh. There is a famous university named as "Khulna University" as well as an engineering university named KUET (Khulna University of Engineering and Technology ) here. The people here are very friendly and most of the young people are engaged in various outsourcing projects and earning a handsome amount. In short, Khulna is one of the most technically advanced city of Bangladesh.
It was golden green all around. We say that, if you want to breath and live properly for sometime, you need to take a break and visit the countryside of Bangladesh. You need to touch, embrace and feel the true beauty of Bangladesh. Mother nature has adorned the country with the most fantastic beauties of the world. You have to stretch your hands to know them. You have to love them to feel the love dwelling inside them. Mother Bangladesh, decorated with all her beauties awaits for her children to embrace her. The beauty is not comparable to anything in the world and so is the love. Inter-City Sundarban Express was passing through the green beauties of Bangladesh. Starting from Kamalapur Railway Station, one after another the stations were passing away. While we started, it was dawn in Dhaka city. There was an affectionate mild sunlight all around. Everything was silent other than the birds chirping and the whole thing was very different from the everyday picture of Dhaka city. The morning paved the beginning of a heavenly journey ahead.
When we got into the train, it was 7 o'clock in the morning. The train started at 7:30. One after another, the stations passed away. Kamalapur - Gazipur - Tongi - Tangaill - Rajshahi - Pabna - Ishwardi - Sirajganj - Kushtia - Meherpur - Alamdanga - Chuadanga - Jessore and finally we reached Khulna. I was clicking photo with the camera of my android continuously. I was preserving the moments, especially the ones over Jamuna river.I have fallen in love with the outstanding vastness, eternity and beauty of Jamuna river. After reaching Khulna, we went to Sonadanga and arranged for hotel. It was Hotel Southern and I will rate it five out of five for its perfect and generous service. Unlike Dhaka city, the people here are very much helpful and sympathetic. After a whole tiresome day, we had our dinner and rested in our hotel room for that night. The next morning we woke up early, had our breakfast, got into the bus and started for Mongla port. After reaching there, we hired a troler (small launch ) and started for Sundarbans.
It was my first journey through water. It was raining on poshur river and none of us knew how to swim. We hadn't got any life jackets too. So, the whole journey was very adventurous and I was a little bit afraid but enjoying it. Again I was clicking photos of the beautiful scenerio of poshur river. There were water and waves all around and it seemed like I was lost in the beauty. After crossing the river, we reached Sundarbans. It was a quiet and beautiful experience to be in the Sundarbans. At first, we had an encounter with the monkeys. They came to us rather majestically and we offered them juice packs which they accepted. After that, we had a walk through the Sundarbans. The great mangrove forest fed by the Bay of Bengal cooled down our nerves and gave us awesome moments to remember throughout lifetime. We fed leaves to the gorgeous deers and encountered with two large crocodiles named as Romio and Juliet by the local people. There were crabs and baby crocodiles too but we weren't lucky enough to meet the Royal Bengal Tiger.
As soon as we finished our travel through Sundarbans, it was already noon. We got into the troler and came back to land. We had our lunch in a roadside restaurant, got into the bus and went to visit the tomb of Khan Jahan Ali. We have also visited the famous Shat Gambuj Mosque built by Khan Jahan Ali. Though women and girls are not allowed inside the tomb or mosque, we were amazed by the greatest example of thirteenth century architecture. There are lakes behind the tomb as well as the mosque and the one behind the mosque has lotus all over it. We were amazed to experience the beautiful sunset over the lotus covered lake. There are two seven hundred years old palm trees which increase the beauty of the area as well as remind us of the ancient history. We were totally lost in the green countryside, houses, cottages and birds until it was dark all around. Then as our adventure was complete for that day, we got into the bus, returned to our hotel, had our dinner and lost ourselves in a beautiful dreamy sound sleep.
On the next day, we went to visit Khulna University. I is a politics free educational institute situated in Satkhira, Khulna and presents a nice view. We walked through the countryside, rested, organized a picnic and had fun throughout the whole day. In the evening we went to the railway station, got into our train and started for Dhaka. We passed the whole countryside behind and enjoyed a quiet night journey within Bangladesh. And by the next morning, we were in Dhaka again!
